Log Home Dealer Opportunities
If you are a log home enthusiast and interested in earning extra income, consider becoming a log home dealer. The popularity of log homes and log cabins has grown significantly over the past decade. Social scientists may attribute the resurgence to nesting trends or to the emerging size and wealth of the baby-boomer bubble. Regardless of the cause, the increased interest has created demand for qualified log home dealers.
Many log home manufacturers require their dealers to buy one of their log homes to use as a model. While having a model home helps in the sales process with prospective log home buyers, this requires a significant investment on the part of the new log home dealer (effectively limiting access to this opportunity to those who can invest six figures in a model home). However, there are a few log home manufacturers, like Cedar Knoll Log Homes, that have developed dealer plans that are ideal for log home enthusiasts who aren't quite ready yet to make that kind of investment but still want to work with people who are looking to build a log home or log cabin (and earn money for their efforts).
New Log Home Dealer Programs Explained
Cedar Knoll Log Homes (CKLH) recently announced it was expanding its log home dealer network. This page is intended to provide a broader explanation of the three levels of dealer participation and insights into what the company looks for in potential dealer partners and what it takes to be successful at each level.
The Referral Representative Program (RR) was designed to give log home enthusiasts the opportunity to become actively involved in the log home buying/planning/building process without having to commit significant financial resources. The RR is ideal for existing CKLH log home owners who take pride in showing their log home or real estate agents who have clients that are looking to buy a log home, log cabin or land to build their own home. There is no requirement to own a Cedar Knoll log home to become an RR. This means that anyone who comes in contact with people who are interested in building or buying a log home or log cabin can earn extra income by referring leads to CKLH.
The RR does not need to become actively involved in the ongoing sales process. The role of the RR is to identify and qualify leads, then simply provide CKLH the name and contact information of the prospective buyer. Once the referral is made, the RR has no further obligations or responsibilities. The RR is paid $1000 for each referral that results in a design/plan/package/product purchase of $50,000 or more.

The Independent Sales Representative Program (IR) was designed for (but not limited to) builders, contractors, designer and architects who are more actively engaged in the home planning/building process. The IR works exclusively with CKLH as a solution provider to meet their existing client needs. The IR is responsible for all client interaction and acts as liaison between the client and CKLH in all matters.
CKLH markets and promotes its brand nationally and provides its IR with qualified leads. However, an IR is responsible for marketing and promoting the CKLH brand locally. The success of an IR hinges on that IR's ability to attract prospects and convert those prospects to buyers. While there is no requirement for IRs to own a model CKLH log home, it is strongly encouraged as sales conversions are typically much higher for log home dealers who have a model to show. To compensate the IR for their efforts, CKLH will pay a 6% commission on all IR sales.

The Wholesale Representative Program (WR) was designed for (but not limited to) regional lumber retailers/wholesaler and builders/developers who, because of the volume of their business, qualify for special wholesale pricing and act as independent resellers. WRs purchase directly from CKLH and are responsible for payment to CKLH. Profit margin for a WR is determined solely by the mark-up between the wholesale purchase price and the resale price.

Log Home Dealer Training and Support
Cedar Knoll Log Homes works with each new dealer, at all levels, to educate them about CKLH product lines, sales policies/procedures, and the planning/building process. CKLH provides all dealers access to marketing materials, cooperative advertising allowances and a designated dealer representative. Dealers also have access to the company's design, sales and production personnel/resources.
The requirements to become a CKLH Dealer are: a basic understanding of the log home industry, an outgoing personality, access to people who are in the market for a log home, log cabin or log camp and the desire to earn extra income. If this describes you, contact Ron Marx, President of Cedar Knoll Log Homes, at 518-563-3810 Ext. 102 or 800-644-3564 for additional information or fill out the form below stating your interest in becoming a new Cedar Knoll Log Homes Dealer.
